New Proposal Re-Routes Keystone XL Pipeline

TransCanada Corp. is proposing re-routing the U.S. portion of the Keystone XL oil pipleine to avoid the Ogallala Aquifer and Sandhills region in Nebraska

A new proposal from Canadian firm TransCanada Corp., the company behind the Keystone XL oil pipeline, re-routes the U.S. portion to avoid the Ogallala Aquifer and the Sandhills region in Nebraska. In addition, the proposal includes commitment to "implement additional safety requirements above and beyond those required for any other pipeline."

Once the state sends a finalized report to Gov. Dave Heineman (R) -hopefully by the end of this year - he will have 30 days to rule on the new route.

However, the proposed re-routing has not calmed environmentalists' concerns, which include concerns that the project will increase U.S. fossil fuel use and endager natural resources.
