California Seeking Contractors for High Speed Rail Project

Contractors have until January 30, 2015, to submit their statements of qualifications to the California High-Speed Rail Authority

The California High-Speed Rail Authority has issued a request for contractors interested in building a 30-mile stretch of the bullet-train route through Kern County. The project, know as Construction Package 4, includes at-grade and aerial sections of the high-speed rain alignment as well as relocating almost five miles of BNSF Railway's existing freight railroad tracks along the route.

The request is a pre-screening step that will lead to a short list of contractor teams who will be eligible to bid to design and build the project. Construction Package 4 is estimated to cost $700 to $900 million, which is potentially the least expensive segment of the project.

Contractors have until January 30, 2015, to submit their statements of qualifications to the California High-Speed Rail Authority.
