Construction industry trends remained upbeat in April as many construction companies reported near-record backlogs. However, expanding profitability may be more challenging going forward with nonresidential construction spending remaining flat, the labor shortage and rising construction materials prices.

However, a positive U.S. economic outlook paired with backlog increases implies many construction contractors will remain busy through 2017 and hopefully beyond.
