January is one of my favorite months of the year, not just because it indicates a start to a new year of opportunity, but also because the World of Concrete will commence in a week or so. I always look forward to seeing what new product and technologies exhibitors will have to offer. We take it as an opportunity to discover the latest the market has to offer contractors and allows our staff to look at what we want to present to you in future issues Concrete Contractor.
With that being said, we’ve had the opportunity to get a sneak peek at what some exhibitors are introducing at the show and we’re able to share it with you. Turn to page 10 to see our expanded World of Concrete Product Preview section. If you are planning to go to the show, be sure to stop by any of the manufacturer’s booths. We’ve made it easy for you by including exhibiting company’s booth numbers with the products in this section.
On page 38, learn about the latest developments in floors, where one company is making it possible to place a floor without control joints.
This month, our Cover Story is a special one. Turn to page 38 to learn more about a recent project dedicated to the veteran’s of Mount Vernon, Iowa. You’ll notice a familiar name, who also writes a regular column for us, Jim Baty, executive director of the Concrete Foundations Association was involved in the project and has shared his experience with us.
This year, we have added a new section to the pages of Concrete Contractor – Concrete Pavement. This section is designed to highlight case studies and latest in concrete paving technology to contractors who are involved in this type of work. Turn to page 60 to read how one pavement contractor is taking advantage of the cool and uncongested early morning hours before sunup to start the day’s work and end before noontime.
