Engineering News-Record

Kiewit Infrastructure Group used accelerated bridge construction to demolish and replace an Interstate 40 bridge in Nashville in less than 58 hours. The project is part of Tennessee DOT's Fast Fix 8 project which calls for demolishing and replacing eight pairs of spans on I-40.

Kiewit is working as both the construction manager and general contractor for the $62 million project scheduled for completion in July 2016. Fast Fix 8 requires closing the highway to all traffic for a total of 13 weekends to provide crews with round-the-clock access to the worksite.

The first weekend of work included placing eight bridge beams, 22 deck panels and pouring 81 tons of concrete.
