The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) announces Peak Engineering, Inc, World of Concrete and Northglenn High School as education partners for the 2016 International Tilt-Up Convention and Expo in Denver, Colo., Oct. 10-12, 2016.

Each year, the TCA holds an annual convention in a different U.S city, bringing together contractors, developers, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, architects, engineers, educators and students who share an interest in the tilt-up concrete construction industry. “Thanks to the support of Peak Engineering and World of Concrete, the TCA is able to introduce the tilt-up building system to approximately 100 POE [Principles of Engineering] students from Northglenn High School,” Lindsey Bloomquist, TCA’s manager of communications and networking says. “The student’s involvement plays a vital role as we continue to increase awareness of career opportunities in the industry.”

World of Concrete is again pleased to support the Tilt-Up Concrete Association’s education program,” says Jackie James, director of World of Concrete’s Global Exhibitions. “Providing education for students, concrete producers, contractors, erectors, designers and architects on this innovative concrete construction application ensures safer, durable, and cost-effective projects.”

The TCA has invited the engineering students to discover the latest products and technology in the industry, attend Tilt-Up 101 sessions and network with industry leading professionals.

“Northglenn HS STEM engineering students are incredibly excited to be part of the Tilt-Up Concrete Convention,” says Nick Kosovich, STEM Coordinator at Northglenn High School. “In their first year of engineering, they used CAD software to design and reverse engineer products. The second year class, PLTW Principles of Engineering, is a hands-on class where they will work with trusses, electronics, programing and support systems. This experience will be invaluable to their continued engineering education.”

Northglenn engineering teachers use the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Program to educate each student. PLTW Engineering applies engineering, science, math and technology to solve complex, open-ended problems in a real-world context. Students focus on the process of defining and solving a problem, not on getting the right answer. They learn how to apply STEM knowledge, skills and habits of mind to make the world a better place through innovation. PLTW students strongly believe that the program influenced their post-secondary decisions and helped shape their future.
