CEMEX USA announced today four of its cement plants were recognized by the Portland Cement Association (PCA) for outstanding safety and environmental efforts, with three plants earning the PCA Chairman’s Safety Performance Award and the fourth receiving the PCA Energy & Environment Award during the PCA’s Concrete Fly-In event Tuesday in Washington, D.C.

CEMEX USA’s Clinchfield Cement Plant in Clinchfield, Ga., built on its reputation for safety, received the 2019 PCA Chairman’s Safety Performance Award. The plant received the same award in 2018 in recognition of its dedication to safe practices while producing Portland cement, the core ingredient in concrete.

In addition, CEMEX USA’s cement plants in Demopolis, Ala. and Victorville, Calif. each received a PCA Chairman’s Safety Performance Award for their commitment to safety. The three plants were chosen from 100 cement plants nationwide as top performers in safety.

“At CEMEX, safety is in our DNA, and it’s a core value we take seriously at all our operations,” says CEMEX USA President Ignacio Madridejos. “We are constantly striving to improve safety, taking care of one another and looking for ways to do things better. These plants are to be commended for their commitment to safety, and we’re proud to have them leading the way in the industry.”

CEMEX USA’s cement plant in Lyons, Colo., was also honored during the event with the PCA’s 2019 Energy & Environment Award in the Outreach category, which recognizes activities that enhance relations with the plant’s community, employees and local government. The plant routinely holds activities to actively engage its neighbors, developing meaningful partnerships to foster local relationships and support sustainable collaborations within the community.

“Our cement plants are parts of the communities where they operate, and at CEMEX, we work to operate responsibly and with respect for the environment,” Madridejos says. “Sustainability is an important aspect of our business, and our Lyons Cement Plant provides a shining example of how plants can make a difference in their communities.”

CEMEX USA has routinely been recognized by the PCA for its efforts in safety and sustainability, earning 15 PCA awards in just the last three years.
