The U.S. Army has awarded Mack Defense a five-year contract worth up to $221.8 million for continued production of the M917A3 Heavy Dump Truck (HDT). The agreement, announced June 24, 2025, covers up to 450 vehicles and follows the completion of the initial 2018 contract.

The M917A3 HDT supports the Army, Army Reserve, and National Guard in construction and infrastructure maintenance operations in the U.S. and abroad. The trucks are used for building and repairing airfields, roads, and other facilities, as well as in disaster relief efforts.

Based on the Mack® Granite® commercial model, the military version is built at a dedicated production line at the Mack Experience Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, which has been in operation since 2021. The trucks feature heavier-duty axles, all-wheel drive, increased suspension height, and ruggedized components, along with ABS and active safety systems to handle demanding environments.

Since the program began in 2018, the U.S. military has ordered 549 HDTs from Mack Defense. The vehicle remains a key asset for the Army’s Engineer Regiment, providing mobility and durability for critical missions.
