New Seattle Highway 99 Tunnel Set to Open to Traffic in the Fall

The new Highway 99 tunnel in Seattle is planed to open months sooner than the latest expectations of January 2019 but it is still three years past the original goal of 2015

The Seattle Times

The new Highway 99 tunnel in Seattle is planed to open months sooner than the latest expectations of January 2019 but it is still three years past the original goal of 2015. The builders' forecast now has construction finishes and testing scheduled for August 14. However, another three to five weeks will be needed to connect ramps before opening the $2.2 billion tunnel.

The tunnel construction was put on hold after the 580foot-wide tunnel boring machine Bertha broke down and needed repair.
