Manitou Group is expanding its factory in Yankton, S.D., to accommodate the production of telehandlers the company debuted at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in 2023.
The company began construction on a $20 million, 75,000 sq. ft. expansion onto its 220,000 sq. ft building. This work coincides with Manitou's 50th anniversary of the site, which is dedicated to the production of telehandlers and articulated loaders. The Yankton expansion comes a year after Manitou began expanding its nearby plant in Madison, S.D. The Yankton expansion will include laser-cutting machines and an automated moving assembly line.
Alexandre Caharel, vice president of compact and articulated loaders, said, "The expansion of our Yankton site, which is now 50 years old, strengthens our group's historic presence in the United States. This is an important growth lever in a particularly dynamic market. This new industrial site will enable us to keep pace with this strong demand, while delivering ever greater added value to our customers.”
Manitou Group has hired 50 employees since the beginning of the expansion, in a state where the unemployment rate is one of the lowest in the United States. This modernization will be accompanied by other hires that will be adjusted according to market trends. Manitou Group has 300 employees at its Yankton facility and more than 900 in the United States.
The expansion ceremony took place in the presence of Jacqueline Himsworth, chairman of the board of Manitou Group; Michel Denis, Manitou Group president and CEO; and national representatives from the state of South Dakota and Yankton Mayor Mason Schramm.
