Irdeto has launched a contactless renting and rules enforcement engine to address COVID-19 government guidance measures handed down to construction equipment  operators.

First-to-market, Irdeto’s Keystone is a secure access management platform for off-highway vehicles, including forklifts and construction equipment. It makes smart rental safe and easy to use via a mobile device, enabling companies to continue healthy and safe business operations.

According to the latest market analysis from the International Powered Access Federation, the global mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) rental fleet reached 1.5 million units in 2019, and with the risk of COVID-19 looking to last many more months, rigorous control methods to reduce the risk of anyone using construction equipment will become the new normal. Although the guidelines and mandatory safety standards may vary by country, having a contactless solution will bring increased control to the construction equipment operators in any location.

Organizations worldwide need to prepare a risk assessment of the impact of COVID-19 to ensure machines can be used and work can continue while meeting their local government guidelines beyond social distancing. With Irdeto’s Keystone, construction equipment operators can enable contactless renting with a digital key, enforce daily inspections, remind operators to clean frequent touch-points regularly, and ensure thorough examinations and maintenance are undertaken every day.

“The importance of good safety and equipment hygiene to reduce the risk of personnel becoming infected has never been more top of mind for leading construction companies,“ said Niels Haverkorn, general manager of Connected Transport at Irdeto. “Construction companies, including rental providers, need a flexible, secure rental access management solution. Our Keystone solution provides a suite of controls helping them with booking, handovers, operations, and end of rental or daily checks, all done with good health and safety measures”.

This solution combines 50+ years of Irdeto security and knowledge into a solution to help owners manage usage and access their fleet of vehicles. By adding an access management solution to their fleets, contractors can now control who has access to their vehicles, when the clients are allowed to operate them, and how they can leverage certain features. As a mobile-first solution, the contractor can manage the entire equipment management process from afar. From the moment equipment is rented on their lot, to when it gets returned, it remains in their control.
