Gilbane Calls for Mandatory Harnesses for NY Construction Workers

Company policy of safety harnesses when working above six feet has prevented 20 workers from potentially fatal falls over past five years

New York contractor Gilbane Building Co.'s policy of workers hooking into safety harnesses when working above six feet has prevented 20 workers from potentially fatal falls over the past five years, the construction contractor says. Now Gilbane is calling for OSHA to adopt the six-foot tie-off rule in the state of New York.

The current OSHA regulations have different requirements for tie-offs depending on the trade. Gilbane's company policy follows the six-foot rule no matter what they are working on or with.
