Fluor Corp. announced substantial completion for Dominion Virginia Power’s 1,358-megawatt, natural-gas-fueled Brunswick County, Va., Power Station. Fluor provided engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services, completing the more-than-$1-billion project with a construction staff totaling more than 1,500 workers during the construction peak.

The power station began producing electricity for customers in April. It will produce enough electricity to power 325,000 homes, and Dominion expects fuel savings of about $96 million per year in the first full year of operation.

“We are especially proud of the project team that demonstrated our ability to achieve quality completion ahead of schedule,” said Chris Tye, president of Fluor’s Power business.

Fluor is also scheduled to begin construction on Dominion’s new Greensville County Power Station later this year, a 1,600-megawatt combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power station in Greensville County, located seven miles from the Brunswick County Power Station.
