The Architectural Concrete Surfaces Today: Decorative Flooring, Artistic Hardscapes and Innovative Design Options course will explore the many applications of decorative concrete finishes for interior and exterior use.

The Architectural Concrete Surfaces Today: Decorative Flooring, Artistic Hardscapes and Innovative Design Options course will explore the many applications of decorative concrete finishes for interior and exterior use.

The program will cover all of the design options available and outline the proper solutions for differing surface requirements and environments. We will discuss finishing techniques, systems and materials, while also considering benefits compared to alternative solutions as well as caveats and lessons-learned. Participants will learn about environmental and project planning impacts of various concrete solutions and safety assurances. The course will look at examples demonstrating the versatility in colors, textures, aggregate exposure, levels of diamond polishing, decorative inlays, architectural saw cuts and multiple solutions in providing graphic etching and design in concrete surfaces.

After completion of this course:

  • Learning Objective 1: Participants will be able to select decorative concrete systems and solutions for interior versus exterior application.
  • Learning Objective 2: Participants will be able to specify the proper decorative concrete finish techniques and use.
  • Learning Objective 3: Participants will be able to assess general costs and impacts of architectural concrete solutions.
  • Learning Objective 4: Participants will be able to define the benefits of utilizing concrete over other flooring/paving options.
