Philadelphia’s Build with Strength coalition welcomed this week the Building Trades Council to its ranks.
Build with Strength works with communities, lawmakers and industry employees to advocate for safer, sustainable building materials. Strengthening local and national building codes is among the organization’s top priorities and already counts Philadelphia organizations such as the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Philadelphia Fire Department Foundation and Philadelphia Federation of Teachers as members.
In joining the coalition, the Building Trades Council has exemplified their commitment to a safer and stronger Philadelphia through improved building codes and safety measures.
“The Council is proud to partner with Build with Strength in calling for stronger building codes and greater fire prevention awareness,” says Wayne Miller, assistant business manager of the council. “It’s impossible to ignore the recent spike of residential fires, and we stand with Build with Strength for positive, preventative change.”
Amid an uptick in wood-framed building fires, Build with Strength has amplified their outreach. The coalition is working to improve fire and building codes as cities and small towns throughout the nation are recognizing the need to address vulnerabilities within their communities.
“Build with Strength and the Trade Council share the goal of building stronger communities in Philadelphia,” says Pat Eiding, secretary of the council. “The growing trend of residential building fires is dangerous, or deadly, for residents as well as first responders and construction workers. We stand together with Build with Strength to fight for stronger building codes to keep families safe at work, at school and at home.”
