Adam Hawoth, Wireless CCTVAdam Hawoth, Wireless CCTVWireless CCTVEquipment theft continues to be a challenge throughout the construction and equipment rental industry. Jeremy White of Pro-Vigil writes that experts expect tariffs on construction material and equipment to likely compound this issue. Many look to surveillance to help increase the security of the jobsite and the equipment yard.

Adam Hawoth is the executive vice president of Wireless CCTV (WCCTV), a manufacturer and supplier of all-in-one mobile surveillance cameras and solar surveillance trailers. Haworth has been a key player in shaping WCCTV into one of the market leaders within the mobile video surveillance industry, providing tools that meet real-world demands for businesses across a range of sectors. He was recently recognized by SecurityInfoWatch as a Security Innovator honoree. I connected with Haworth over email in September 2025.

Q. How did you get into security surveillance? What drew you to the industry?

My early career was spent in the mobile telecomms industry when 2G technology was evolving into 3G at an early stage of IoT. I was presented with an opportunity in the early 2000s to apply this knowledge to the security industry, which I grasped with both hands. The benefits of a truly autonomous security product that could be utilized to protect infrastructure sites were obvious, and I wanted to be a pioneer!

Q. In a general sense, what innovations of the past 5 to 10 years have made the biggest impact on the construction site security?

Primarily, the evolution of cell networks from 3G - 5G, allowing faster and more transferable video at higher resolutions, coupled with innovations in power autonomy, has created an ability to deploy solutions quickly, reducing the burden on the end customer to facilitate infrastructure and communications before deployment.

Q. How has video surveillance changed?

A major difference in video surveillance is its shift from reactive to proactive, allowing for faster response times and integration with other IoT devices. The transition from basic recording to interconnected systems with HD and 4K camera enhancements, AI-powered analytics for threat detection and facial recognition, paired with remote access, increases the focus on data protection and privacy regulations.

Q. How do you think artificial intelligence will affect surveillance technologies?

AI integration is making surveillance more efficient and widespread. Platforms, such as Stellifii, enable real-time analysis of environmental monitoring and smart detection to improve security response times, reduce downtime, and deter theft, all resulting in fewer project delays.

Q. What do many in construction (and equipment rental) misunderstand about video/jobsite surveillance?

Many site and project managers still see surveillance as theft prevention, when it’s a broader risk management tool for safety, accountability, and aligning with regulations. They assume any cheap camera will do, but the majority can’t withstand the environment of a construction site (dust, weather, etc).

Q. Theft on construction sites and in equipment rental is a major problem. What would be your top 5 ways to deter criminal behavior and better protect the jobsite and rental fleet lots?

  1. Deploy Monitored Mobile Surveillance — Deploying mobile surveillance trailers with live monitoring and AI-driven alerts will transform surveillance from reactive to proactive deterrence and incident responses, making intruders aware they are being watched.
  2. Strengthen Perimeter Security — With well-lit entrance points, fencing, and gates, creating a secure perimeter around sites can make it difficult for unauthorized trespassers to enter.
  3. Secure Equipment and Assets — Ensuring equipment and assets are in a locked, secure location prevents theft, as it removes visibility to criminals scoping out your construction site.
  4. Enforce Rigorous Access Management — By implementing access control systems, this significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, as they are not registered and can be flagged by site managers.
  5. Maintain a Visible Security Presence — Security guards stationed at any access or risk points can provide real-time protection and deter any criminal activity by patrolling the areas.
