Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport $1.5 Billion Expansion Plan

A planned 700-acre expansion will help the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport increase its capacity as well as encourage commercial development and create jobs

The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport has developed a four-phase expansion plan to help create commercial development and thousands of jobs.

The proposal for the $1.5 billion plan focused on accommodating the growing number of passengers over the next 20 years and beyond, after research indicated the airport could reach capacity by 2014.

About 700 acres of airport property and the supporting infrastructure would be developed with this plan. In addition to airport expansion, the development would aim to encourage commercial development not related to the airport.

Although a funding breakdown has not been confirmed, the expansion plan will likely be paid for through a combination of Federal Aviation Administration and other federal dollars, Arizona Department of Transportation funds, sponsorships and bond money.
