Dismantling of Structurally Flawed Las Vegas Casino Begins

Workers have started to remove scrap metal and other materials from inside the structurally flawed Harmon casino tower on the Las Vegas Strip. After being delayed for years due to a legal battle over the unfinished building, a judge ordered on May 5 that the dismantling process could move forward. A crane will begin taking the building apart in the coming weeks, according to the Las Vegas Sun. The dismantling is expected to be a yearlong process.

Judge Gives OK to Raze Unfinished Harmon Hotel in Las Vegas

The 26-story, half finished building has been empty after construction stopped in 2008 when inspectors found flaws in the steel reinforcements of the concrete structure. A September trial is set to determine who is liable for the defects.
