Montreal-based AGF Access Group (AAG) was selected by Flatiron/Aecon Joint Venture (JV) to provide temporary stair towers and engineering services for twinning the bridge over the Bow River as part of the major Calgary Ring Road Project in Alberta, Canada. Workers will access the formwork system of the pylons and superstructure during its construction by means of 142 ft. of AAG’s temporary stair towers, positioned almost 30 ft. away from the bridge’s concrete pylons.
“The stair towers need to be more than 28 ft. away from the structure. This is unusual because typically that distance is approximately 2 ft.,” said Stephan Loiselle, Business Development Manager, AAG. “This makes the application challenging, but AAG has excellent engineers with design insight and experience to manage unique needs such as these.”
“Due to the complexity and non-standard construction requirements, AGF Access Group was the most efficient and most practical option to provide our access,” said Kyle Hendrikx, Superstructure Manager, Flatiron-Aecon JV.
AAG’s lead senior installers will train and supervise the Flatiron/Aecon team onsite how to erect the stair towers for the job. “It’s common for us to solve access challenges on projects whether through equipment or services,” said Alex Di Domenico, Vice President, Major Projects, AAG. “AAG is a manufacturer of standard and custom scaffolding solutions, as well as a supplier of structures such as stair towers, and a source for engineering consultation services for equipment layout and access solutions.”
The erection of the main bridge towers is currently underway. The estimated completion of the bridge is 2022.
