Ditch Witch Organization Hosts High School Students for National Manufacturing Day

In recognition of National Manufacturing Day, Ditch Witch, a Charles Machine Works company, hosted 220 high school freshmen on Thursday, Oct. 26 to help inspire the next generation of manufacturers and celebrate modern manufacturing. Participating high schools included Perry, Covington-Douglas, Morrison, Mulhall-Orlando and Guthrie.

Students from each school received a tour of the Ditch Witch and Subsite Electronics facilities. On the tour, students heard from factory employees and had the opportunity to ask questions about their work. In addition to the tour, students received lunch and experienced the thrill of the Ditch Witch Super Witch tractor in action.

Throughout the day, students also participated in classroom-setting engineering projects. To promote team-building and provide an opportunity for hands-on learning, teams of students competed to build the tallest tower using spaghetti, one yard of tape and a marshmallow.

“Manufacturing Day provides an opportunity for our organization to engage with the local community, showcase the value of modern manufacturing in today’s society and create a better understanding of manufacturing careers,” said Dennis Wierzbicki, Ditch Witch president. “Through education and sharing our enthusiasm with students, we hope to play our part in encouraging the next-generation of the manufacturing industry.”
