AASHTO Praises Senate's Proposed Transportation Funding Levels

Senate's continuing resolution provides for the full funding of all programs included in MAP-21

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has expressed support for proposed transportation funding levels in the Senate's version of a continuing resolution that would fund government operations through September 2013.

The Senate restored the transportation cut by the House from the proposed continuing resolution that House members approved last week to fund the federal government through September.

The Senate amendment to the continuing resolution would maintain the funding levels dictated by MAP-21, the two-year, $109-billion transportation funding bill signed last summer by President Obama.

The House cut $117 million in transit funding from the MAP-21 authorization and $555 million in funding for highway safety programs including state grants to curb drunk and distracted driving.

"We strongly support the transportation funding levels in the Senate's continuing resolution, which provides for the full funding of all the programs included in MAP-21," saYS Bud Wright, AASHTO executive director. "The Senate's continuing resolution recognizes that the nation's economic recovery remains dependent on the funding levels envisioned in MAP-21 and now is not the time to deviate from those levels."
