DES PLAINES, IL - The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation recently received a $35,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS. The donation will fund six $5,250 scholarships along with an opportunity for recipients to attend ASSE's annual Professional Development Conference and Exposition, SAFETY 2010, to be held June 13 - 16, 2010, in Baltimore, MD.
Four of the six scholarships, the David Iden Memorial Safety Scholarships, are awarded to undergraduate junior- or senior-year students working toward a degree in safety, health and the environment (SH&E). Two of the six scholarships include the UPS diversity scholarships, which are awarded to junior- or senior-year students from a minority ethnic background pursuing an undergraduate degree in SH&E.
"We are very excited that UPS has one again agreed to support the Foundation and help us provide assistance in the way of scholarships to deserving students in the field of safety," said ASSE Foundation Chair Eddie Greer, CSP, OHST. "It is with the loyalty and support of companies like UPS that we continue to make a difference."
Scholarship applicants must be full-time students pursuing a B.S. in occupational safety and health or a related field. Applicants must be student members of ASSE, have a GPA of 3.0 in a 4.0 system, be in good academic standing and be recommended by a safety faculty member. Students are invited to apply annually for scholarships through the ASSE Foundation from September through December 1st.
