The fast-growing tilt-up concrete industry will get its first convention this year as the Tilt-Up Concrete Association hosts a three-day event Oct. 12 - 15 at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta.
The theme of the convention, the first of what is planned to be an annual event, is "Tilt-Up 4 Today: Energy, Environment, Economy, Efficiency,"and will feature seminars, round tables and a trade show.
The keynote speaker at this year's convention will be David D. Shepherd, AIA, director of sustainable development for the Portland Cement Association, who will deliver the presentation "Concrete Thinking for Sustainability."(For more information on tilt-up concrete and sustainability, see p. 22.)
The conference program will kick off Wednesday, Oct. 12, with "Tilt-Up Contracting A-Z,"a crash course in tilt-up construction for contractors.
Thursday and Friday will feature sessions for contractors, engineers and architects. Some of the sessions of interest to contractors:

Friday will wrap up with a panel discussion and closing dinner. Saturday morning will be highlighted by a bus tour of local tilt-up buildings.
