Samsara has released its Safety Report: Benchmarking the Future of Safety, a global analysis of 2,600 fleets based on anonymized data from approximately 20 trillion data points and billions of miles driven during the first 30 months of platform use.
The report highlights that construction fleets face unique risks, with harsh events up 31% and crashes up 32%, likely due to on- and off-road operation in congested or confined jobsite environments. Fleets using Samsara’s full AI safety suite — including dual-facing dash cams, in-cab alerts and driver coaching — reduced crash rates by 73% over 30 months, nearly twice the average improvement across all fleets.
Fleets equipped with dual-facing cameras saw more than double the crash reduction compared with front-facing cameras alone, thanks to real-time visibility and driver feedback. Safety improvements emerged quickly: fleets with 175 or more vehicles reported a 49% drop in harsh events and an 84% reduction in mobile device use within the first six months, deepening to 69% and 96% after 30 months.
Improved safety also correlated with stronger compliance. Large fleets saw CSA score improvements after 30 months, including a 43% gain in Unsafe Driving, 57% in Hours of Service compliance and 83% in Controlled Substances/Alcohol scores.
The report also provides insights into regional trends and fleet size impacts, offering a benchmark for organizations looking to improve safety performance across the industry.
