New Boston Ordinance Would Allow City to Deny Construction Work Permits Based on Safety History

Ordinance would update city's Municipal Code to allow city officials the right to deny, revoke or suspend a work permit based on a company's work safety history

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh has filed an ordinance that would update the city's Municipal Code to allow city officials the right to deny, revoke or suspend a work permit based on a company's work safety history. The Mayor hopes the ordinance would help improve construction worker safety.

Currently, the city is not notified of any resolved or outstanding OSHA violations, but the new ordinance would require contractors applying for work permits inform officials of any violations with OSHA.

It's up to the Boston City Council to approve or deny the ordinance. If approved, the ordinance would take effect immediately.
