When Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains was in urgent need of a tough waterproof material, they turned to W. R. MEADOWS for recommendations. The process of selecting the product and the actual construction of the structure was an interesting process, which is highlighted in a new case study available now from W. R. MEADOWS. The case study, entitled “Waterproofing an Indoor Waterpark: Winter Waterproofing of Waterpark in the Poconos Mountains” is now available at www.wrmeadows.com.

The specifier was searching for a material that could hold up to a harsh winter construction environment after a previously chosen product wasn’t able to meet the temperature requirements needed to not delay the renovation deadline. John Rakus, estimator for EDA, the general contractor, reached out to Tim Durso, outside sales at W. R. MEADOWS. Tim was able to immediately recommend MEL-ROL waterproofing membrane for the project. Jason Sorci, Partner/CFO of Architectural Design Consultants, Inc., had no problem approving the product switch to MEL-ROL after hearing about its flexibility, versatility, and dependable nature.

During the duration of phase one of the renovation project that took place from January 2014 through early 2015, over 70,000 sq. ft. of MEL-ROL was installed. A 100-year storm and significant cold spells didn’t inhibit MEL-ROL’s quality or installation. With the help of MEL-ROL, Kalahari Resorts & Conventions was able to reopen on schedule in late summer. A second renovation phase had also commenced. When completed in the spring of 2017, the 150-acre Kalahari Resorts & Conventions became America’s largest indoor waterpark.

“With the difficult conditions during construction, I was more than confident that we had the right product and right contractor to succeed. It has led to a strong relationship between EDA, myself, and Meadows building envelope products that continues on projects today,” says Tim Durso.
