ACI Names Winner of Nondestructive Testing of Concrete Competition

The American Concrete Institute recently named the winner of a competition.

Sina Mehdinia, Portland State University, is the winner of the 2019 James Instruments Student Award for Research on Nondestructive Testing of Concrete. The competition is sponsored by James Instruments, Inc., a Chicago-based manufacturer and distributor of NDT systems and administered by ACI Committee 228 Nondestructive Testing.

Sina will receive a $1,500 cash prize for his research paper titled, Enhanced Imaging of Structural Concrete with a Medical Image Fusion Perspective and will have an opportunity to present his findings to ACI Committee 228 and at the Research in Progress Session at a future ACI Concrete Convention

The purpose of this competition is to stimulate student interest in the area of NDT; to recognize meritorious and innovative research in concrete and concrete materials using NDT methods; to publicize the field of NDT and the work of the committee; and to recognize the support given by the sponsor to students working on NDT research.

ACI is currently accepting submissions for the Concrete Projects Competition and the Competition Travel Stipend Program. The deadline to participate is June 2 and June 30, 2020 respectively.
